Caveat emptor!

"Let the buyer beware!"

Authorized Resellers versus De-authorized Resellers

Years ago, about the only place that you could purchase projectors was directly from authorized resellers. But today, many unauthorized resellers are finding ways to get their hands on projectors, and they're selling them to unsuspecting customers.

So, what's the difference, you may ask. "If an unauthorized reseller has the projector at a better price, what's wrong with purchasing it from them?" Below are a few reasons why an unauthorized reseller may end up costing you more than you think.

You might not be getting the product that you think you are

One way that a de-authorized reseller might be able to sell the seemingly same product for less, is that many times they purchase the projector directly from another country. Those projectors are not meant to be purchased in the United States . You will not be able to use the warranty in the US , and the features of the product may vary a little. It may look like the same projector, but you'll soon realize the difference.

No Service and Support

The warranty and service are very important considerations when purchasing your projection technology. If you purchase from a de-authorized reseller, you might be gambling to lose both your warranty and service. De-authorized dealers are not recognized by the manufacturers as resellers of their products. Therefore, if your projector stops working, the manufacturer will not be able to service it. And most of these de-authorized resellers have no interest in offering any type of support after they get your money.

Lack of Product
If you purchase your projector from a reseller that specializes in other technologies or computer equipment, you can bet that their projector selection is few and far between. Therefore, the projector that they are trying to sell you, may be one of the only projectors that they have. So, you aren't receiving the best product for your needs, but the only one they can offer. Plus, when you need parts for your projection technology or need a new projector, odds are that an unauthorized reseller won't have it.

"Hello? Where did everybody go?"
Manufacturers are in the business to make money. Before they agree to allow a reseller to purchase their product, the manufacturers make sure that the company has the capital, resources and business expertise to be in business for the long term. If the manufacturer won't sell them the product, that should be convincing evidence that you shouldn't buy from them. Afterall, dozens of projector resellers close their doors each year.

A few signs that point to a possible unauthorized reseller:

-Sells projectors on the side -- Mainly sells computers or other technologies
-No mention of projector warranties or service on website
-Small selection of projectors available
-Projector price that is considerably lower than all competitor prices
-Call the manufacturer directly and find out if they are authorized to sell their product!
